SUHR,

74, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Springfield, MA to John Russell and Esther Holmes, and moved early in her life to Hillsborough, CA. Ann graduated from Castilleja High School in Palo Alto, CA. She attended the University of Arizona, where she joined the Tri Delta Sorority. She received her degree in Education and went on to teach second grade. Ann was active in the Phoenix Junior League and numerous charity organizations. She was an accomplished tennis player, played golf and loved to travel. In the last several years, she spent many mornings providing breakfast with her husband at St. Vincent De Paul of Phoenix. Her favorite time was spending time with her husband, family and friends. She is survived by her adoring husband, Gus, her brother Jack (wife Kat), her daughter, Janis Voorhees (husband Jim), son Jim Lyon (wife Robin), step daughters, Gail Suhr, and Linda Miller (husband Chuck), and grandchildren Alex Stocklin, Quinn Voorhees, Ben and Jon Lyon, Bradley and Gavin Miller. She is also predeceased by her daughter, Jennifer Lyon. Ann will be remembered for her kind, caring, graceful, loving nature, her easy laugh and her unconditional love and dedication to her husband, family and friends. She was truly an inspiration to all that knew her. She will be missed tremendously. A Memorial Service and Celebration of her life will be held on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 7655 East Main Street, Scottsdale. A reception will follow at the Arizona Country Club, 5668 E. Orange Blossom Lane, Phoenix, AZ 85018. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ann’s memory may be made to St. Vincent De Paul, P. O. Ann was an old high school friend of mine. Marcy Elsbree told me Ann was ill with cancer. I sent a card with a note but am sure it arrived too late. I have had cancer 3 times myself and Marcy felt I could give Ann some comfort. The last time we were together was about 20 years ago when Al and I came to Phoenix with the Colorado State football team (they were playing Arizona State) and we had lunch together. It was Oct. and the weather was beautiful – as was Ann. My husband Al went to Stanford Business School with Ann’s brother Jack and Gene Elsbree.

Gus and Family, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Knowing that Ann is now with The Lord and at peace will hopefully give you comfort in the days ahead.

All our love, Al and Shirley Anderson
    Windsor, Colorado
