Teresa Susie

Phoenix – Teresa “Terry” Vicuna Susie began her new adventure February 6, 2019 due to complications of dementia. Mom and her identical twin sister Emma were born May 18, 1924 in Santiago, Chile. School days were spent in the city, but summers were spent on her grandfather’s successful thoroughbred stud farm in Temuco, Chile, where mom became an accomplished equestrian. As a young woman she came to the United States to attend college in Greely, Colorado. Upon her return to Chile, she met and married her “mine boy” Hal F. Susie. Returning to the States in 1956, the family moved to several different states. While in Santa Fe, NM, mom proudly became a U.S. citizen on Dec. 15, 1964. The family settled in Phoenix in 1966. Mom enjoyed golf (member of Wigwam Country Club), and was an avid bridge player. Always ready for fun, she could start a party where there wasn’t one -and how she loved to dance (and her scotch!)! Preceded in death by her husband Hal, sister Emma Galuska, brothers Hector and Edwardo Vicuna. Survived by her children John Susie (Valerie), Jackie Susie, Carolyn Sullivan (Michael), Marianne Burton (Lee), granddaughter Lesley Susie, and many nieces, nephews, grand and great nieces and nephews. Casual Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, March 20, 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., at Valley Polo & Riding Club, 2530 N. 64th Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85257. Condolence from Isabel Clarke on March 3rd, 2019 4:39 pm

Hello this is Isabel Clarke and my late husband Scotty Clarke were great friends with Terry and Hal when they were members of the Wigwam Country Club in Litchfield Park. I played golf with her and bridge too. We went to many parties together and had a lot of fun. I saw the obituary and was sorry to see she passed.

Condolence from Stephanie Stearman on March 12th, 2019 3:00 pm

How fortunate was I to have Terry Susie as my second mom in my teens and 20s. I still make some of her dishes — chakakan (sp?) is one of my favorites. I still use her line at the dinner table — it’s very quiet — everybody must be hungry! Countless times Marianne and I would try to sneak into the house in the early morning hours after a night of partying … only to hear music and see Terry and Hal dancing in the living room! It is quite a testament to her strength that she carried on a beautiful life 34+ years after losing the love of her life, Hal. A kinder, sweeter heart did not exist. Terry, vaya con Dios. Con todo de mi Corazon y amor.

I loved your Mom’s spirit and that twinkle in her eye! I so enjoyed her visit to meet our horses just a couple years ago! She was an amazing woman and I am so sorry you had to say goodbye!! I am sure she is galloping through the green fields of heaven on her favorite trusty stead as I write this!! Hugs to your whole family! Earth lost a remarkable woman!! Love to you all.
