WESTBROOK, ELSIE
On Monday July 1, 2019, Elsie Westbrook, loving wife and mother of five children passed away at the age of 99.
Elsie was born December 13, 1919 in Moore, ID to James and Harriet Knighton. She received her Associates Degree in education from Ricks College in 1941. She taught school for a total of eight years, with a year and a half break for a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. On January 4, 1950, she was sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple to Francis Chadwick Westbrook. They raised five children; Brent, Linda, Alan, Sheri, and Ken.
Elsie had a passion for serving the Lord, which included a church mission, time spent with her husband as a temple worker, and many loving years teaching primary children. Next to the gospel, her family brought her the most joy and happiness. Time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was a highlight of the last few years. Sharing her fondness of music and love of playing the piano with others always could put a smile on her face.
She was preceded in death by her father James, her mother Harriet, eternal husband Chad, and eight siblings. She is survived by her five children and their spouses, sixteen grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 5, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints building at 525 E. 2nd Ave Mesa, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at the same location at 10:00 A.M., with a visitation starting at 9:00 A.M.
I loved her beautiful smile and the fact that she always had a kind word to say to you. Our condolences to the family.
Aunt Elsie was my favorite aunt. She always was so loving , sweet and kind. I was able to stay with her a few times and she was so good to me. I admired her goodness and commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I know she is happy with Uncle Chad but she will be missed especially at the annual Westbrook Easter Picnic.
I will always cherish the memories of growing up and staying with my grandma Elsie. I used to celebrate my birthday with her husband Chad, my grandpa. I remember my grandmother always wanted to teach me the right way, and instill good morales. I went through a rough patch, but I am so grateful I was able to spend the last couple of years with her knowing I had turned my life around and living the gospel. I loved hanging the clothes out on the close lines, picking fresh fruit, having family home evening, and I got to stay in the littlest room in the house which was so cozy and nice. My favorite was having family dinners or get togethers at her house & having squash burros or hay stacks lol. I will truly miss her and keep her memories close to my heart. I know she isn’t suffering and has reunited with her family and her husband. I am thankful for eternal life and knowing this life doesn’t end on earth. Love & miss you grandma,
Sincerely, Donnie Wiseman
Haven’t known her for very long, but sure enjoyed each time I got to visit with her.
I am very saddened to hear of the passing of this wonderful woman. Jessica And my daughter, Heidi, were big buddies in elementary school, but then, that was very long ago and we moved…so I haven’t seen her in many years, but during the time that she was in my life… and Linda and I were close, she always treated us so nicely. Her memory is close to my heart and I would like to send my condolences and love to her sweet family. Love and sweet memories to you all. ♥️ Candi O.
Aunt Elsie was the BEST woman alive! She never had a cross word, never judged. Always had a smile and kind word to say. One of my favorite relatives by far!!!! You are in a better place now. You will be greatly missed❤
It’s been so many years since I had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful and special Lady. I honestly can say she was always kind to me and I can remember her sweet smile. It was back in the late 60’s and early 70’s when I met her through Brent and Frank. I still remember her being friendly to Therese and myself and sitting with us on the porch while the boys were working on their Harley’s. Rest In Peace Sweet Lady.
A mother is so precious and yours was one of the best. I always look forward to seeing her when she would come to visit you.
Celeste and I so enjoyed visiting Aunt Elsie. I have many fond memories of family reunions over the years with my cousins Brent and Wayne Bell. Also of Chad and Lawrence playing their violins. I’m grateful for the knowledge the gospel gives that assures me that Chad and Elsie are united once more, this time for eternity.
Our prayers go out daily for those mourning their lose, but testify to the reality of their eternal lives.
Love and blessings to all,
Evan and Celeste King
Your mother was an angel and I loved her dearly! What a profound blessing she was to all who were privileged to know her. Her beautiful smile lifted many a soul. She will be missed.
My love to the family. Your sweet mother will live on in her posterity which is her blessing for her faithfulness. No greater reward or honor for a mother.
So sorry to have missed the opportunity to speak to you personally. There was a funeral in my ward at the same time and I did not get the message about her passing until after the viewing on Friday.
My love to all with a very big hug!!! you are a very special family!
