SCOTT WILLIAMS 68 of Anthem, Arizona, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 17, 2020. He was born on November 25, 1952 in Zanesville, Ohio.
Scott attended Ridgewood Junior High and Ridgewood High School in West Lafayette, Ohio and graduated from Madisonville North Hopkins High School in Madisonville, Kentucky, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball. He completed his Bachelor of Science from Northern Arizona University and later graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Master of Business Administration. Scott began his 41-year career with Peabody Energy in 1972 and worked until his retirement in 2013, finishing the last 21 years of his career in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Scott loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hiking, camping and mountain sports in Colorado as well as Flagstaff. Scott was also an avid hunter, spending time at his hunting cabin in Missouri. One of his biggest thrills was big game hunting in Africa. Scott also enjoyed the sport of golf. He grew up on a golf course in Ohio and was a local caddy. Scott was a member of the Aspen Valley Golf Course and the Anthem Golf and Country Club in Arizona. He enjoyed golfing with his wife, son, sons-in-law, and buddies.
Scott enjoyed traveling with his wife creating beautiful memories across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia. Scott and Paula’s favorite spots were hiking the coastline in Cinque Terre, the Alps in Switzerland, and the rolling hills of Ireland.
Scott had a full life and appreciated the long-standing friends and relationships he developed in both his work and recreational endeavors. You will be remembered, Scott, for taking pride in your family and always putting them first, your competitive nature, your sense of humor, your great taste of wine and bourbon, your generosity, and your undeniable love for your wife (& mac and cheese)!
Scott is preceded in death by his father, Howard Williams, and mother, Jacqueline Horn Williams. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Paula Merriott Williams, three children Erin Williams Barriger (Matt), Whitney Williams Vettraino (Tyler) and Wesley Williams (Carrie), eight grandchildren Westyn, Max, Vivian, Hayes, Lukas, Trevor, Rocco, and Harper, and three siblings Mark Williams, Sally Williams Sugg and Stacy Williams Britt.

Dear Paula and family,
Yall have been heavily in the hearts/minds of my family. When Alan and Steph got married, our family also inherited YOUR family who we continue to love. We have stayed in touch with Steph every day, and our hearts break for yall. Scott said the kindest things about Alan, when we lost him. Alan was so lucky to have Scott as another “brother” over all of the years. Please know that we love yall and wish we could give you a hug, like you did for us! Always here for you and your family ~

I was Scott’s baseball coach at Ridgewood High School during his sophomore and junior years. Upon learning of his passing, I have talked with several of our players and everyone is shocked and saddened.
Scott was a major contributor to the successful teams we had at Ridgewood. Likewise for football and basketball he was a leader and contributor.
I attended a Ridgewood class reunion several years ago and he was also in attendance. All of us shared numerous laughs and stories that evening. It was fun being together again.
Please accept our most sincere sympathies and may God grant everyone comfort and peace.

Paula and Family,
While i never met Scott, i have had the pleasure of working with Erin over the past year. She is such a fine upstanding individual and a valuable part of our team at IL American Water. Through her actions, she consistently makes a positive impact on all those she interacts with – we are grateful to have her and can imagine she exhibits many of Scott’s positive attributes. I know he would be very proud.
