
John Arthur Young, 63, born on May 8, 1954, “Mother’s Day”! Passed peacefully after a long battle with COPD, then Lung Cancer with his family by his bedside. He is survived by Mary Young, Ann Marie Young-Bodenbach (Scott), Edward. Preceded in death by his mother Hortencia Maldonado Young and father Edward Morris Young. He was born in St. Joseph’s Hospital, raised in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley, AZ. John graduated from Saguaro High School Class of ‘1973. He attended Scottsdale Community College. Later he followed his father and brother and went through an apprenticeship, becoming a brick and stone mason. He loved athletics; football, tennis, darts, fishing, camping, and was a devout fan of the Arizona Cardinals and Diamondbacks. John was always the “Gentle Giant”, shy, good hearted, loved animals, Pink Panther, the outdoors, close friends, the Scottsdale Jaycees, Parada del Sol in Scottsdale, Arizona. Since 1974 he served as many chairmanships including Vice President, Manpower received the Gold Key, and Tenderfoot Awards. John was deeply hurt by the early death of our mom to Lung Cancer at 56. He dug many rock filled tree holes to plant trees all around our Paradise Valley home for mom. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. Rosary prayer at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 11300 N. 64th Street, Scottsdale. Burial will follow after the mass at Paradise Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Mary’s Food Bank, 2831 N 31st Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85009.
