YOUNG, MARGARET

June 1, 2020 3 Condolences

Margaret E. Young

Margaret “Peggy” Young, 90, a Native Phoenician, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2020.

She was born on July 17, 1929 to Charles and Mary Spaulding. She was the last surviving sibling of the Spaulding children: Mary, Patrice, Charlie, Sally, Kathleen.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Howard Young. Her son Keith Desplanques and her 2 grandsons Shawn Bern and Charlie Desplanques.

She is survived by 5 of her children: Gayle (George) McCarty, Susie (Jim) Smith, Jeri (Dave) Watts, Dennis Desplanques, Kevin (Mary Jane) Desplanques.

Peggy was blessed with 9 grandchildren: Maureen, George, Dennis McCarty, Mary, Robbie, Dennis Desplanques, Jamie, Sally, Peggy and 10 great grandchildren: Amber, Melissa, Raina, Darius, Christian, Luzma, Gabralita, Calib, Kaelea, Asher.

She attended St. Mary’s Elementary School and St. Mary’s High School.

She sold War Bonds to help support the war effort of World War II and in her free time loved dancing the night away to the live music at The Riverside Park Ballroom.

Peggy was a woman of style and beauty. Every outfit carefully worn with all the accouterments. Her hair and nails styled to perfection till the end.

She had a keen sense of humor and sharp wit that brought joy and laughter to all her family and friends.

Peggy loved all kinds of music. She was an avid reader and was always up for a good Hallmark movie. She followed the news and stayed up to date on all current and social events.

Peggy loved the holidays, especially Christmas and decorated her home with an “eye” for the finest of details. Each passing season as finely decorated as the next always adding something new. She made holiday get togethers extra special by searching out “treasures” to give every single person from novelty toys at Christmas to salt and pepper shakers every Easter and Thanksgiving.

Along her life journey came the gift of Howard Young they married in 1981 until his passing in 1999. He treated her like a Queen and loved all of us more than we could have ever imagined.

Peggy loved to socialize. She was always interested in a Friday night Fish Fry or lunch at China Chilis. Anytime was a good time to go out. “A meal always tastes better when it is shared with someone” she would say.

Peggy was her name, but Grammy was her title. She always wanted everyone to remember that she had a really good life. She loved her family and treasured her friends. She will be truly missed and loved forever.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2020 from 9:00 A.M. -11:00 A.M. with a Rosary service at 11:00 A.M. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road in Phoenix and will be open to the public with limited persons at any one time along with social distancing regulations.

A woman of grace, beauty, wit and humor. I feel “Mom” (as I called her too) would want us to remember and celebrate her life to its’ fullest. Remember the good times with her and the love she shared with us. She brightened our lives. We all will miss her but she will always be with us in our hearts. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family, and friends, for strength, guidance, and peace of mind.

Peg or Mrs. D, as a few of us very affectionately call her was one of the most gracious, elegant, friendly, and funny people one could ever meet!! She adopted a whole cadre of young Marines In the mid to latter 60s. We were all so dazzled by this lady, who was such fun and so down to earth but yet each one of us was made to feel special by her ability to make us feel at home!! She has made all of us yearn for many more years of her special personality and persona!! She is in Heaven gracing all with her wonderful sense of humor and her wonder of life. She leaves us with dear and wonderful memories as well as teaching us to love each other each and every day. What an incredible legacy she has given us and we bless her for her gift to us!!
