Urns

An urn is a container used to hold cremains. It holds cremains for different purposes and can be fashioned into any style. Urns can be classified in two ways, based on their materials and function.

Classifications Based on Materials

Metals

Aluminum, copper, gold, and silver are the materials used in metallic urns. Due to metallic properties, metallic jars are lustrous and strong.

Wood

Wood is a popular choice for holding remains. It can be carved into beautiful styles, and you can paint it in any color.

Ceramic

Ceramic urns are classy, delicate, and beautiful. It is often designed with patterns using different colors of paint.

Stone

Stone was used to store cremains during ancient times. Stone urns are designed by carving stone boulders. Stone urns are unique and elegant because they can be sculpted into any shape.

Classifications Based on Purpose

You have three choices for a cremation burial; keeping, burying, or scattering. Urns are used for each of those purposes.

Burial Urns

As the name suggests, burial urns are used to bury cremains. Burial urns can be used alone or used with a burial vault. A popular choice of burial urns is biodegradable urns made of materials like wood or cardboard. Biodegradable urns are a green way to go.

Scattering Urns

Scattering urns are used to release cremation ashes. It would prove challenging to disperse cremains with a traditional urn. For example, you can get blowback from the wind. Scattering urns are better adapted for the funeral.

Storage Urns

A storage urn is an urn used to store ashes for an extensive period. There are different types of storage urns;

Keepsake Urns

Sometimes, family members choose to divide their relative’s cremains between themselves. Each party then discards the remains however they choose to. Those who choose to keep the remains use keepsake urns; more miniature urns are designed to hold such a quantity of remains.

Regular Storage Urns

It is the average urn used to store cremains at home or in a columbarium. These urns are regular by function, not my style. Thru can be customized into any unique design you want.

Companion Urns

Companion urns are a pair of standard storage urns designed to be part of the same container. The urn can hold a total of two cremation ashes. It is often used by couples who wish to be laid to rest together.

Jewelry Urns

This urn type is a material shaped into jewelry with space for storing cremains. It is used to hold the cremains of a loved one on you at all times.

Remember that you can design your urns or customize an existing one. While you are shopping for urns , feel free to be creative. You can cut out urn expenses if you are on a tight budget because the law does not require you to hold remains in an urn.
